fluval 405 vs fx5 for 90 gal

Would the fluval 405 do the trick for a planted 90g or should i try and get the fx5? would the fx5 be too much for a planted 90gal tetra tank?

While I don't have the experience to suggest one over another I will say you never have to worry about too much filtration. Any big filter like those will allow you to turn down the flow rate to a level you're happy with.

True enough, Basically i'm looking at a 90 gal fluval osaka. the guy was asking 600.. so far i got him down to 500 with a fluval 405. he also had a fx5 for sale.. was thinking if its worth trying to some how work that in for a bit more $ or if the 405 is good enough.. but yes i agree more filtration is always better.

I run an FX5 its awesome just my .02$, FX5= huge amount of bio-media and filter pad options, you can get them with media for about 270 new on amazon, a new 405 is about 116 on amazon with out media. the 405 would be sufficient if you had something else to help with circulation.
However, I run a FX5 with a 205 on mine and still have a fan for more circulation.

So i found a better deal on the same tank out of town, (200$ less) so i'm going to go for it.. it comes with a nexx filter which i have heard mixed reviews for.

For a 90 GAllon is it worth buying a new or used canister or just stick with a nice big hob and call it a day? Is there any real big difference or is it essentially just looks?

I'd definitely run a canister or sump on a 84 gallon Osaka, since it's not drilled a canister would be the easy way to go.
A 405 would probably be just enough and a little more is better, imo.

The single FX5 is a little more money but its local, so i am going to go that route. I just hope its not to much of a current to overpower the little guys! I cant wait to get the tank

Just turn the flow down, I run a Fluval 306 on my 29g and have the flow set a just under half of what it's capable. If I'm doing work in the tank after I'm done I turn up the flow and then catch the big bits that float up in a net and then let it run for about 5 min. After that the water is usually clear again and I turn down the flow rate.

I'm really enjoying having a big canister filter and would never go less than double sizing one.
