Red one is definitely a cherry. I had a tank with mixed colors and still got some really dark chocolates, it's up to you whether to keep it in there or not.

Ok awesome! What would happen if i threw in the red (or even on of the darker ones) with my cherries and they bred? Would it produce a mix of choco and cherries, or would I get wild type?
No thoughts on the moss yet? --Would I have better luck just making another post about it? |

They will breed, so it's just a matter of what may come out. They are both Neo heteropoda, just selectively bred colors.
No idea on the moss. Prob be good to make another post about that specifically.

Ok, but I meant what would I get from the red choco and the cherries mixing. Would it just be like 2 cherries breeding, or would it be like crazy different? If you don't know, it could be an interesting experiment

Your results may vary but...
My 37g was stocked with an initial population of very good quality cherry culls. The first generation offspring included two dark chocolate sports with tan back stripes and the tank later gained a couple fire painted red females. Now, 90% of the offspring get eaten within days, and it's impossible to tell who threw what color, but the mix in my tank has produced some pretty interesting results. There's the usual red cherries--ranging from really poor quality males with no more than light red spotting on a clear body up to 2nd and 3rd generation females that still show near FPR qualities. That makes up about 80%. Back stripes are relatively uncommon. Browns are next at about 10% of the popuation--males are as poorly colored as regular grade cherry males with brown spots on a clear body, females range from a light brown to very dark. Back stripes are the norm for females. The rare ones are an occasional reddish-orange, a single opaque deep wine colored female, males and females with clear and burgandy banded bodies with blue edges to their tail fins and one absolutely gorgeous chocolate female I'm head over heels about--she's a beautiful solid opaque chocolate with white speckles low on her sides. No back stripe showing yet but she's still young so it may yet show up. |

Ya I got a red/purpleish cull from my chocos. She was saddled about a month ago and disappeared before I could pull her out. I have some serious culling to do.

I've been off the forum for the last 2 weeks because of exams, but now I'm on spring break so I thought I'd do an update.
So its been around 3 weeks since this tank has had shrimp in it. I've had one casualty, and sadly it was the one red chocolate, so no experiment for a while As for the plants, I left a little of the carbon (like a teaspoon throughout the whole tank, so im not worried about it leaching bad stuff given the size and frequency of my water changes) and the growth in this tank is much better than in my others--plants are growing real fast, especially the glosso and HC. The moss is christmass moss, and I tied it up a little tighter. The flame moss in the back behind the wood and the rock is also growing well. I also decided to leave the back wall covered wit whatever algae decides to grow there, for the shrimp, but I've been cleaning the front and side walls every time I do a waterchange. |

Yeah I sure hope so! I think one of the females (Really dark) is berried, actually, which is exciting, and I see that some of the clearer females are saddled.
Ill try to get some pictures in a couple days when I get my camera back. |
