Betta in community tank, random mix compatible?
That title probably barely made sense, sorry but I'm curious about introducing a male betta to a 40B community tank.
Tank includes: -7 zebra danio/2 long fin golds that school together -9 galaxy rasbora -5 kuhli loache -3 spotted Cory cats My main concern are the danios being nippy with the betta and bullying it to death but they mainly like to keep to themselves and chase each other around the tank. Heavily planted and plenty of hiding spots so if I follow usual procedure with introducing the betta, can I get away with my current stock? Sorry for any grammar errors, my phone likes to make me sound like a hillbilly. |

Honestly it is going to depend on the Betta and his individual personality whether he is going to be aggressive or not. It is possible the danios and G. rasbora will be a bit nippy. Really you won't find out until you try it unfortunately. Betta should be fine with the kuhlii loaches and corys.

What's a 40B ?
How many gallons is the tank? I have kept a betta is a community tank. They don't do we'll in deep tanks with lots of water movement. If they are kept with large fish they become shy. Your tank mates sound fine for a betta.

And no. His tank mates do not sound fine for a betta. The danios can and often do nip at the betta, and bettas often show aggression to slower and more passive fish such as your loaches and Cory cats, I know mine would bully my plecos |

It depends on the betta's personality and its tail type. Longer finned bettas will be harassed by the danios whereas plakats or short tail types should do fine. It's mostly trial and error with bettas. If your betta is showing signs of aggression or if the betta is being nipped by your fast moving fish, be ready to rehome him ASAP.

Great info, sounds like my concerns are valid. I mainly wanted a beta to add some color and distinction to my tank. Are there any other fish that you would recommend that do ok by themselves and grow to about 5 inches? I might just default to a small school of Dalmatian mollies.
