co2 near filter intake

instead of having a glass diffuser, can i put the end of my co2 line near the filter intake pipe so that the co2 bubbles get sucked up? is this a reliable method? my glass diffuser broke and cleaning a difffuser is just one more thing to do on maintenance day. does this method get better or worst diffusion? thanks

It will work fine, but the noise as the bubble gets chopped up by the impeller may get annoying.

If you have a high CO2 flow rate, it may cause the filter to lock up.

I would advise against putting it near the intake if it's going to be permanent. CO2 may corrode your impeller after so long. It'll do what you want, and as darkblade said, it's noisy and may cause the impeller to seize up.

yup I agree with putting the co2 awa from the filter intake due to tht fact that it may damage the impeller with noise.

I bubbled CO2 into my Eheim intake and the bubbles completely dissolved before they reached the canister (I could watch through the green tubing). I did this for many years.

If you put a chopstick in the end of the tubing the co2 will flow through the wood and will be released as small bubbles like a glass diffuser.

If you were to do this, you'd need a certain length of tubing. His length of tubing might not be the same as yours was. Also, the CO2 concentration is still higher when it reaches the impeller than if it were to be diffused in the tank and then taken to the impeller through normal filtration. Which still can corrode certain impellers after a long time. CO2 and metals don't go well together.

Any wooden chopstick will do. Disposable ones are much cheaper. It'll let out larger bubbles than some other wooden chopsticks but it'll do what you want.
