Great white sharks hit their prey on the surface bite & release allowing the kill to die then they eat it. I believe the theory is less chance of a thrashing victim putting the sharks eye out or harming it in some way. for something so big and built to kill, they are more or less pussies. if you present yourself as a threat at all they don't tend to attack because it'd not worth the risk.

that doesnt mean I'm getting anywhere near them or their territory. I had a mild panic attack getting into the water around the Dominican Republic when my wife wanted to go snorkling, so i'm pretty sure if I saw a great white (or a nurse shark for that matter) i'd crap myself and get eaten.
