Help with planted tank soil
Ok so I have been researching this gravel call ada soil or something. It's supposed to be the best, but it's a bit expensive and would rather try the miracle grow with flourite cap method.
What do I need to look at on the package of miracle grow package that would hurt the plants. This is a fish-less tank. So lets say I put mostly miracle grow on the bottom with like a half an inch to inch of flourite, would that work better then just straight up flourite. I have flourite in m 29 gallon and works well, but I want to try miracle grow with flourite. What do you guys think? One more question: how long does miracle grow last, like nutrient wise. Some say that flourite lasts years, but what about miracle grow? Thank you |

check out the mineralized section of topics http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=184631
as far as what dirt to use, don't get any potted plant mixes or anything with fertilizers added. you want something organic and for garden use.

That and spend more than month setting up the tank or you can just grab a bag of MGOCPM
![]() Scotts brand Miracle Grow Organic Choice Potting Mix is the bagged 'dirt' product I use. Avoid the bags labeled "potting soil" MGOCPM (potting mix) contains some soil a large portion of organic material (55-65% by volume). Sphagnum peat moss, composted bark fines, leaves, twigs, wood chips etc. and "pasteurized poultry litter" (cooked chicken crap). 0.10-0.05-0.05 To date I have not seen water parameters altered using the mix. more info: http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/sh...898&highlight= http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/sh...002&highlight= http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/sh...714&highlight=

Ok I think that i'll go with the organic miracle gro. I plan to dose this tank-a 15 gallon- pps pro style. Will that work with the soil and cap of flourite?
Oh and how long will this stuff last, the soil? |

My oldest tank is 4yrs wet without dosing beyond a bump being added after water changes. ![]() Potting soil, Flourite, 4xT8 and a sponge equipped power head.
