New Tank - Snail Questions
I have a 72g heavily planted discus tank.
Have few discus, shrimp and lots of Assassin Snails. Setting up a new 120g aqua scape discus tank. It's going to be mostly wood, rocks and a large anubias on a driftwood from the 72g. The anubias is huge about a foot easily. I don't plan on having Assassin Snails in the new tank. My fear is when I move the anubias to the new tank there will be snails coming over however much I clean. How do I prevent the assassin snails hitchhiking to the new tank? Also I am planning on using the existing filters (eheim and fluval 405) on the new tank. Should I clean them too to get rid of the snails? if so how do I clean the filters? Any ideas? Thanks |

Your only option is to clean extremely well and to use a bleach dip or potassium permanganate to help rid hitchhikers.

Thanks somewhatshocked.
Would the anubias be ok with the bleach/pottasium permanganate dip? |

Anubias are super-hardy and can handle just about any dip you put them through.
I wouldn't dip all plants but Anubias can certainly handle quick dips in my experience.

The anubias is attached to a fairly big driftwood. Can I dip the wood too in the bleach solution?

Is it possible to hold the wood out of the water when dipping?
If not, maybe you could just use a spray bottle and then rinse things in Prime-treated water really well.

Separated the anubias from the wood and dipped the plant in 1:20 bleach mix.
Hopefully this would have cleaned up any snail and snail eggs. Thanks for your suggestions. |
