Lego Peristalic Pump Article

I saw this come through my RSS feeds today:
http://blog.makezine.com/2013/02/26/...ic-syrup-pump/

No write-up on how it was made or if was cheaper than buying a cheap pump off e bay but it is interesting none the less.

The lego mindstorm is fun. Good present for kids who are brainiacs.

Cool, it doesn't even use mindstorms.. those are all power functions components (even the IR remote).

The new mindstorm comes with a remote control, I think.

There's a whole website
http://mindstorms.lego.com/en-us/Default.aspx
It's $250 from what I can remember. You can get it at toys r us or the lego website/store.

No remote control, has to be purchased separately.

Man that's pretty neat but the wife would kill me unless I sell my nitro plane and buy one.

Default About the LEGO peristaltic pump

Just saw your post about the LEGO peristaltic pump and questions you had.
The avtual pump unit uses about 5 dollars worth of LEGO bricks and a latex surgical piece of tubing. The inner roller diameters are adjusted by with electrical tape wrapped around the rollers. It takes a little work to get the tubes to lie over the rollers abd you have to hold thm in place sligjtly with electric tape. Once in place it works pretty well. Not sure about the volume i delivers per turn.
The motor pieces used are from the LEGO power functions and you need to produce a high torque on the pump with the gear ratio shown.
let me know if you have any more questions.
