Reducing light intensity?

I always hear folks needing to reduce their light intensity looking to put window screen over their light bar.
I'm curious...
Why don't we put window tinting over the light bar? You know, that stuff for windows in your home from Home Depot...

Would that be just as good? Better?

+1 for the duckweed! Only problem is the growth rate. I get rid of 75% of it every other week and it comes right back

You could use the tinted plastic used for windows, but someone would need to measure how much a single layer of a specific film will drop the PAR or this is just a shot in the dark. I may have some of that film in my junk box, and if I can find it I will try it. Another thing to remember is that any tinted film is just a filter, which will alter the color temperature of the light, and that effect isn't known or easy to determine. So called "neutral filter" plastic still changes the color enough to at least wonder about.

I couldn't find any scraps of that window tint film, so I couldn't do any testing with it. Sorry.
