while you work on saving up for a pressurized CO2 system, I would recommend throwing together a DIY set up for now just to get some CO2 injection going. It should really help the plants grow which will starve out the algae. Dosing ferts isn't a bad thing. You just need to find balance between the CO2 and ferts. I battled BBA for a while in my 20 gallon, and I ended up hooking up a Jell-O CO2 system while dosing Flourish 2x a week and spot treating the BBA with Excel. The BBA is all but gone now, and the plants are growing really well.

I can't do a DIY this tank is in my sons room on his dresser. He's 5 and autistic...he gets into everything. I already catch him with his hands in the tank trying to catch fish and flipping my surge protector Nd and off amongst other things

What a coincidence, my pair has around 3-4 day old free swimming fry! Although this is my 8th batch of fry from them.

Should I expect to lose a few? And also what should I feed them? All I've fed them so far is crushed spirulina flake. My other foods consist of algae wafers NLS cichlid pellets and frozen brine shrimp. I'm sure they can't eat the pellets yet but maybe the brine shrimp?

UPDATE: staghorn algae is gone and the diatoms are receding although now I have green hair algae and have no idea what to do. About 2 weeks ago my Kribs bred and now I have a clutch of about 30-40 fry swimming around because of this tho the parents killed 3 of the danios. Also I have a snail outbreak bi pick about 4-5 out a day but I can't get them all. I think they may be eating my plants since some of them are getting little holes in the leaves. Thinking about starting ferts agin but in a half dose for a while. Gonna start with just trace elements and see what happens

Default The krib crib (10g low-tech)

Assassin snails finally took care of my ramshorn problem. Now it's the algae. I've gone to less light larger water changes less food and no ferts. Yet it won't go away. Still waiting it out. Also I took the Juvie BN Pleco out of my other tank today and added him to here, temporarily til my friend is ready for him. Lets see if he makes a dent

UPDATE:

So the female krib died of excel overdose and almost lost the male. He recovered nicely tho. No more excel or ferts and today I added some plants I collected near me. Also reaquascaped completely and got rid of the cave and driftwood for 1 piece of mopani wood. Also added a small school of neon tetras
