Every Time I Think I Am OUT, They Pull Me Back IN!

I started a planted tank almost 2.5 years ago that was quite short lived. After taking considerable time researching and sourcing equipment, I finally started the planted aquarium when my wife was pregnant with our first child.... Not a good idea! Needless to say once I really got the aquarium up and running, it was just an argument every week when I was doing my weekly maintenance.
Short story... I lost the argument and the tank!

Not sure why I am looking for more abuse since we are now expecting our second child, but I am looking to start a new planted aquarium... this time the tank will be in my office and not at home.

My plan is to build a high tech 40B with a fully automated weekly water change system. My office has a lot of plumbing options in the wall and for some reason has its own mini hot water tank and the ability to plumb and drain a somewhat complicated system that should allow me to enjoy easy weekly water changes... that is for another thread!

For now, I am ISO a rimless 40B that I can source locally with the ability to drill multiple holes in the rear and bottom of the aquarium. My end game plan is for no equipment to be seen in the aquarium.

I do not want to break the bank on the aquarium... so looking locally.
And if this does not exist locally, wondering where you would buy online. I am not interested in using glasscages - if I can avoid it.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

PS - I am located in Brooklyn - And I have a car for any Tristate sourcing... I dont think I would drive up to Buffalo.. you get the point!

Well... that was expensive!!

Do!aqua lily pipes, a bunch of bags of Amazonia... some other ADA gear etc.

And about to order the Mr Aqua 48.

Well ... if you "do not want to break the bank on the aquarium" as mentioned in the opening post, you're going about it in the wrong way.

A rimless 48 gallon, high-tech with auto water changer is not going to come cheap. The same for ADA gear. I'm not faulting you for selecting the best components, just pointing out that you may be spending more time and money than necessary to have a nice tank.

I know... I did break the bank! I couldn't help myself.

$700-800 later... I ordered the Mr Aqua 48... as well as new Do!Aqua Lily Pipes and 27L of Amazonia.

I am going to scrap the auto water changer for now. I may add in later.

PS - I still hold out hope that I won't end up with a nice tank and super crappy scape! Time will tell.

well - i cancelled my order with MarineDepot today on the Mr Aqua 48. Ordered it two weeks ago... Day One they tell me is 2-3 weeks back ordered, later that day they tell me is only 3-5 days before it ships...
i wait a week and check in - same 3-5 day reply
another week goes by... no response - i check in today and they tell me is another 4 weeks minimum.

That's ADA money right there! What ever you do, don't buy a 40B and de-rim it yourself, my 40B with the rim after 18 months had a bow in the front pain that made me a little worried about the integrity of the tank. I bought a new 40 a few months later. You might be able to build the tank yourself for a lot less and get just as good quality as ADA or DoAqua.

long tanks require the rim to support against mid tank bowing.

Consider either another manufacturer as well. I see many frag style tanks that have a lower profile which may well suit our applications. The market has a flood of varying tank styles these days so the opportunity to change up to something new and interesting is a welcome departure from the traditional rectangle.

The Mr Aqua 48 that I was buying was $289.00 plus $100 for shipping.

The $700-800 i was referring to included the Aquarium, Do!Aqua Lilly Pipes, 27L of Amazonia, and a handful of needed supplies.

And as far as de-rimming a 40B - I would never do that!!

However, since MarineDepot could not get the Mr Aqua in stock, I am now considering a 90P or just buying something from Glasscages.com
