Inline flow valve

Has anyone installed an inline flow valve for a canister filter? I bought a zoo med 501 for my 3 gallon Deep Blue Professional tank. It might be strong for this and I would like to be able to control the flow. Do you have any ideas or products I can install for a flow valve? I need to do some searching.

Try a drip irrigation produce that is a ball valve.
Tech Line (Netafim) is one maker.
I will suggest you use hose clamps to make sure it stays in place.

Every eheim canister has them built in, it's a sound concept, just find yourself a ball valve that will fit the tubing you have

A couple of aquarium supply stores sell ready made ball valves e.g.

It's also pretty straightforward to make your own using a PVC ball valve glued to appropriately sized hose barbs for your filter hose. Here's an example of the canister flow valve/manifold from my old paludarium setup which I made this way (obviously somewhat larger than what you're talking about but the same principle would work):
