Anyone have any ideas for making legs for a shoplight?
I am thinking of making some legs for a 48" shoplight, much like many of the higher end lighting systems you would see in pet stores. Not sure where to start or how to begin. What do you all think?

Get a wheeled coat hanger. It's adjustable & movable during tank maintenance. Might have to get longer PVC to extend it. I used an L bar to screw lights 2 and then zip tie.
Local retailers carry them for $40 |

I built some out of wire. It's a bit different as it sits on the tank. They are currently in use on my 40 gallon tank.
Here are the images:

Depends how high you want it up above the tank. I made a light stand out of 1/4inch plexi-glass as shown in the following picture. Used epoxy to glue the pieces together.

Here are some better pictures for you. You could probably use a silicone instead of epoxy and make it look cleaner at the seams.

If you go to one of the big box stores, and go to the electrical supply area, you can get galvanized conduit piping really cheap. For whatever reason, the HD's in my area are a LOT more helpful with stuff like bending a length of pipe or cutting a piece of molding. You can make L brackets that you can suspend over the top of the tank by drilling holes in the conduit and attaching it to the back of a stand, table, or whatever the tank is sitting on and suspend the light fixture/s from the ends of the "L's" as your settup dictates.
If you don't like the look if silver conduit, you can slide black vynil hose over it. I made an LED pendant for my hex that cost all of $40, and that included $23 for the 5500K LED spotlight. |

I haven't tried it personally, but all researched evidence indicates that silicone will never properly bond with plexiglas. |
