That happens with rams, They need to learn to be parents. It may take them a few tries but they will get it eventually.
P.S. your tank looks great

One more tip put a big plant in the corner of the tank and put a flat rock about an inch away at the base of the plant. It will give the parents a better chance of defending off any fish looking to snack
