My vote is always for shrimp.

But maybe a really cool Betta? Or even a Pea Puffer?

As for plants, well... your options are endless.

What kind of substrate will you use? How difficult do you want them to be?

I have an Indian Dwarf puffer in mine along with a couple shrimp and a bumblebee goby. Lots of plants and some driftwood. Everyone's pretty happy!

I did some filter mods too if you're interested. Seems to work pretty well.

I just pulled off the head on the filter to lower the current but there is the matter of the pump creating some splashes back in the filter and I lost a betta because it decided to stick it's head in the hole and get stuck.

I am new to the hobby, so easy plants. Pebbles or sand substrate. I was thinking cherry or ghost shrimp, but I also think puffer could be cool. Right now I have a 15 gal that has been set up for a few weeks and this 4 gal still in box. My idea is that the 15 is kind of a "practice tank" and if I do we'll with it I want to upgrade in a few months/ year to a bigger tank and get some angels/ better lights and plants. If I have this 4 gal as a shrimp tank, I can use them as feeders for my angels if/ when I ever get a bigger tank.

I have had this evolve set up for about 2 weeks now. Not really final set up, just threw 2 extra plants and some gravel. Don't know when I'll get fish or shrimp, but, ........does anyone have this tank? I a, trying to figure out how to quiet the pump a bit it makes a vibrating/rattling sound and no matter how much I move it around I can't get it to stop. This tank is in my bedroom and it is annoying.

I have the 8gal evolve set up as a shrimp tank. Been running for almost a year now. I love it. no problems but 4 of the leds went out. I contacted aqueon and they sent me 2 more fixtures (there mistake - my gain) I'm running both lights now with co2 and ferts.
No mods on the filter but I stuffed the filter with media and foam. seems to be working. If I ever rebuild it I will mod the filter though. great customer service
I also wrap the pump im foam

I have this tank and went slightly high tech, i abandoned the original filter and lights as they were not enough to grow what i wanted. I cut out the area that holds the filter pad in the back so i can fit a fluval c2 HOB filter to the back. Then i got a wave point clip on LED, might seem a little overkill but this light is awesome for growing red plants for me, i just raise it a little to prevent algae blooms. I did however keep the original pump because i do like the flow it creates and as for the rest of the area in the back i threw in a lot of ceramic rings and i leave plenty of space in the back in case i ever want to throw a purigen bag or extra carbon. All in all I am pretty proud of the modifications i did to suit my needs. Every once in a while i do get shrimps that make their way into the back but they eventually find their way back to the main tank. Do not be afraid to mod this tank to suit your needs, you do not want to make a nice set up and then find out there's not enough filtration or light to sustain your plants and fauna, i learned this the hard way.

These pictures are after it's initial set up, if someone wants i can post updated pictures once i get ahold of a good camera again
