Just for reference this is the first planting. Next week I am adding the rest of the driftwood/plants. No soil, little to no nutrients added, dosing DIY CO2. Tank gets direct sunlight from window.

I like that buried white rock, that with a bunch of green around it will look really cool i think

Isn't the lack of nutrients, combined with the power of the sun, going to give you problems with algae and nutrient deficiencies in the plants? Just curious.

That's why I use lots of easy plants that don't require a lot of nutrients. I also inject CO2 ton increase their potential. Worst case scenario I end up putting some root tabs into the substrate, I will keep you updated on any algae blooms.

Update on the Planted Bichir tank of death. Added some big catfish in there that's usually swimming around. I think it has been going for about 1 month now, maybe more. No soil, only sand substrate, no root tabs yet, and little to no co2, sometimes I dose 24 hours. No light, only natural direct sunlight. Plants get all nutrients from the fish poop. So far I have 14 different species of plants and 4 species on najas(guppy grass). Sorry for the bad pictures it has a really small light on it.

All plants were taken from my own clippings or harvested from the wild.

Only problem I have run into so far has been an apple snail that climbed under the big piece of driftwood and died, I sure do hate those things.
