supps/foods for caridinas
My question:
If you were starting from scratch with supps and foods (which I am) and money was no object (even though it always is), what foods and supps would you choose to buy? I would like to figure out a complementary and comprehensive program for them. I do feed fresh, organic kale and spinach as well. Looking at Ebi-ken, Mosura, BorneoWild, and Shirakura... It does not have to be all from the same product line, but would rather not have too many overlapping products. I have a hard time figuring out what to use with other products, how to cover all my bases and have the healthiest shrimp possible, but not use too many and overfeed/supplement.... Thanks! |

Shirakura Ca+ for remineralizing RO water.
BorneoWild supplements like Stout and Whiteness Jake's (somewhatshocked) different foods like his veggie sticks and others. You can get all this for years for roughly $60.

After all the products I have bought so far, Mosura CRS specialty shrimp food is an all around staple food for caridina. Everything else feels/seems like treats.

I would recommend BW: Shield, Color, Barley (any brand, really), Crimson and White, and perhaps Frenzy. Get Ebi-Ken EI for baby food.

I don't use it, however allow me to quote several people here who I consider experts.
"Nothing will correct poor stock, but it will, if used right, help your whites become whiter."

White shrimp products really need to be used on babies if you want to see results.
I would HIGHLY recommend samples first. I have probably over 30 high end shrimp foods here and some of it, they just don't touch. Not every shrimp has the same tastes. What my shrimp love someone else's shrimp might hate. Likewise I have certain tanks of shrimp that won't eat certain foods that others love in my other tanks. There is zero sense in spending tons of money on stuff they don't eat. Furthermore a lot of these products don't have preservatives in them....which means you've got 4-6 months from time of opening...maaaybbee a year if you keep it in the freezer or refrigerator. So yeah even though the amount I have would last years if it had preservatives in it, the sad thing is most of it won't. This is why I have so many RAOKs, I'd rather it be used than go bad or go to waste

That's probably a good point about expired foods. They don't print expiration dates though :/.

I know and it stinks. Some will say 'use within 4 months after opening'...sometimes you even get manufactured by dates. Really crappy label 'procedures' if you ask me.

Well part of the issue is it isn't standardized food yet. I've been in the hobby long enough to have seen a more expensive cherry shrimp. It is a growing hobby, and other than Barley, I don't know anything you really can have USDA approved. I personally can't see how certain products would go bad, others, however I could see going bad quickly. Especially after thinking about it more.

That's why I started sample sizes. Give people a chance to try all these foods without purchasing full bottles and then having your shrimps turn it down. -Sent from my Samsung Note, a "Phablet"
