Lighting question. Please help

I have a 48" 55-Gallon tank with a few New World Cichlids. I recently added a some anubias, java fern, anacharis, and christmas moss. I want the plants to grow in well and potentially add a few more plants. I have a Coralife T5 HO light fixture which can handle two 48" 54W bulbs. However, I only have one 10,000K bulb in for fear two bulbs will be too much light and cause excessive algae growth. Please let me know what you all think? Should I leave it as is, or add another bulb, if so what kind do u think? What about adding a 50/50 bulb? Needless to say, I have no desire to add any forms of CO2. Please advise.

I would say that 1 bulb should be enough - two bulbs might be pushing you into medium/medium high light, which would potentially require fertilization and CO2.

I would not recommend you using a second bulb (particularly if you are planning to use a 50/50 bulb).

You need 2 do some more homework on your wattage... Just sayin...

I have 2 Coralife light fixtures on my 25 gallon planted tank. Each fixture holds 2 bulbs. N each fixture I am running a Coralife 6700K & a ZOO MED Flora Sun bulb. I am running just over 3 watts per gallon but that's because I am growing Glosso as my foreground plant & it takes a LOT of light to grow that stuff.

Also if u really want your plants 2 take off try a co2 system. I am running a paintball system setup on mine & I LOVE it... My plants love it 2... Almost as if they r on steroids from the lighting & co2...

Just my $00.02 worth... Good luck
