New 120 Tank (going to order this weekend)
So after a lot of debate I am going to order a new 120. Unless anyone changes my mind
![]() I don't plant to have overflow or drilled. The tank will fit perfect 60x18x26, I have just enough room for it. I was thinking the extra height would be nice for some of the swords I plan to keep. Is it better to have 1 or 2 filters on this tank? I guess what I am asking is I can order one big canister that will be fine, or should I just go with 2 smaller canisters on it? Also going to have custom oak stand and canopy built. Once I place the order this weekend I will start a journal. I should have everything in about 2 months, it going to cost me a bit more than I wanted to spend, but I think in the long run, larger tank will be better. Always open to advise.... |

2 filters are always better than 1.. that way you can rotate the filter cleanings each month.. that way you disturb less filter Bio material with each cleaning..

Why not see about buying locally to get a deal?

If I were to get a 120g tank I'd want the 48x24x24 size. The 24" depth is sooo nice to scape, can't be found in smaller tank sizes, and is the best benefit of a large tank.
For filtration one or two 2217's combined with a big Aquaclear HOB should work well. Last edited by Oxl; 02-15-2013 at 05:48 PM.. Reason: - |

Three things to consider: 1) it is easier to get lighting for a 48" or a 72" tank than a 60"; 2) 26" is really deep—perhaps deeper than you are able to reach?, and 3) I much prefer 24" wide tanks over 18", as aquascaping is much easier and aesthetic.

Thanks everyone for the feed back so far.
Don't have room for 6 foot tank, I would love to go that size, just don't have the room, very very limited on space. The 5 foot tank would fit perfect, but never thought about the light, that going to be a pain, or expensive. Also like the 48x24x24, but the tank would then stick out over the window, which won't be good and don't think wife would like for window to be blocked. It all goes back to space, and we are very limited. |

Well the 24" deep tank may stick out 6" over the window but it wouldn't be as wide so you could keep the tank a foot away from the window making that overlap much less noticeable. Would also make a nice space in the corner for a tall silk fig tree/stand lamp or the like.
