Beofre I left at 5:30 this morning I had caught 11 just over last night. I have pulled almost everything out of the tank and am rescuing all the shrimps I can... Can dragonfly nymphs lay eggs?

Sorry to hear about your loss. I would remove all the shrimp then bleach the tank and let it sit for a few days.

That sucks!!! I remember buying plants from LFS and people and getting two of the worst things in the planted hobby. Cladophora algae and Utricularia graminifolia (similar name). The UG was a strand with little bubbles (a carnivorous plant) which grew and strangled every single plant and the clado attached to gravel, HC and everything else. They grew so fast that I was taking out half a bag every week. The reason they are the worst is because they like healthy tank conditions. So you cant out compete them with other plants. A year later I gave up and threw everything from my tank. I lost my heavily planted tank to these lozers. To make it worse, I moved my 100 or so cherry shrimps to my emergency 2 or so gallon tank. To my stupidity, there wasnt enough oxygen. Another genocide.

atm I have a heavly planted tank, but Im not going back to shrimps. I love them but they make everything else difficult.

I hope you get rid of those rascals and save your shrimps.

I guess this should be a warning to shrimp keepers to not use plants that are packed with the shrimp. Toss them out like any other packing material.

Yes that My dream carpet plant is UG, I still searching for someone with a decent price for them.

Definitely nuke it. Not worth the potential risk with such expensive shrimp.

Some types of dragonfly eggs can apparently remain in a state similar to diapause for several months - which is a scary thing to think about when it comes to a shrimp tank.

Nymphs cannot lay eggs, therefore, the eggs must have been attached to plants you got from this seller. I would just remove those plants and I'd be fairly certain the damselfly larvae would not continue popping up. If the shrimp are already removed from the tank, you could try adding some small corys or Amano shrimp to clean up any eggs still in the tank that might have detached from the original plants. I wouldn't nuke the tank if it was one of mine. Good luck!

The eggs have a hard shell type covering that I believe would ward off any hungry shrimp.

My barbs started to look for nymphs after I fed them literally 50 or so decapitated ones. The bodyless heads still had fight in them, so I gave the batch a 2nd trimming where I sliced off their jaws.

Oh yeah, I also added in some boiling hot water to the container to parcook the insect parts before I poured it into the tank.

It's fun to watch the nymphs attack their pray, their mouthpiece shoots out to grab the victim like a razor sharp grappling hook.

• So you'll be nuking a 55G tank? I would have loaded it up with fish instead for a week & intentionally not feed the fish. They will clean up the pests when they're hungry.

My gang of rosy barbs or my inquisitive sorority of f-bettas would also do a great job of insect removal.

20 gallon tank, after all said and done I found 15 plus the 2 dead random ones.... I think they all hatched. I threw all the plants out that were in the tank. sifted the substarte with a sifter I have, just beg enough to let the substrate through and nothing else. and then put it back into the tank, filled it with water, and I am going to run it with some larger zebra danios I have and maybe a larger bottom dweller for a month, and see if anything pops up. Throw a occasional water bottle in with a algae waffer to see if anything crawls in it. Yeah I got some U. gibba as well int he shipment, caught that right away. I also noticed when I was getting everything out, that I probably got hydra from it as well. Found some on the back corner of the tank I cant really view... Seeing the ony thing I put in this tank outside of what I pulled from 100% clean and health other tanks was the hybrid shrimp and the planst that they taged along on.
