What is going on with my tank?

Trying to figure out how to get rid of this brown algae or diatoms in my tank. Its getting pretty agressive and taking over my hc. The tank is new and almost fully cycled. I dose dry ferts on the ei schedule. Has pressurized c02. Drop checker is the right color. Lights are 2 t5ho. Tank is a 20 gal long. Any help would be appreciated.

The only way I know of to help get rid of diatoms is to do more PWC's. Diatoms are from the silica in the water which is from the silicone in the aquarium. Once the silicone has stopped leaching the silica you should be fine.

Default What is going on with my tank?

I have had algea in my 10 gallon tank last month...they are all over my tank from the driftwood, rocks to anubias leaves and dwarf hairgrass...

It took me almost 3 weeks to fight with all the algea like BBA, BGA, long hair algea and now they are almost gone...

The reason that cause algea is when the tank set up it had more fert, a lot of light and not enough CO2.

What I did is decrease the lighting period down to 7 hours/day...have the CO2 running 24/7...Dose excel 1 hour before the light on everyday

I also put more plants in the tank. If you don't want to put more plants, use floating plants instead so it is easy to take out later. Do 20% water change every other day or 2-3 times a week.

And another trick is the time when the light on...make it different from the previous period...

After 3 weeks, my tank is out of algea...even algea that was on the hairgrass

Hope it helps...the shrimps and oto are very helpful in getting algea...

Hmm... I've gotten diatoms in acrylic tanks without any silicone seals numerous times. Every new tank gets diatoms around the 2-3 month mark in my experience. They will go away on their own or you can get ottos or nerite snails to eat them and speed up the process.

The ottos and amano shrimp had that tank clean super quick. Those 2 together are amazing.
