Was out of town yesterday and stopped at one of the "chain" pet stores, hoping to get some Excel....well, they didnt have any, so I decided to try API's "Carbon Booster",liquid carbon. Has any of my fellow fish enthusiasts, or plant enthusiasts, tried it?? And if you have, did it help??? Im curious.......

Works just like Excel. You can just use glutaraldehyde and dilute it.

Hello guitar...

I use it with API Leaf Zone and I like the results. I like to cycle different liquids. Plants are a lot like people. We're at our healthiest when we eat a variety. It's really no different with aquatic plants. Plants get used to one type of fertilizer after a few weeks or months and I've noticed the growth will slow. I switch out the liquid with something a little different and I'll notice a growth spurt. I like Tetra Flora, Plant Gro and some of the liquids from Earth Juice too.

Just an opinion, though. Don't want to say what I do with my tanks is the best or only way. There are plenty of alternatives.

Later,

B

I have used both Excel and API carbon booster. I have switched to API due to it being cheaper. Both work just about the same. I have been using it on my 90 gallon that has been overrun with BBA and I am almost done with 2/3rds of the bottle and I have noticed a huge drop in the amount of BBA. I like the API.

I'm also seeing good results using CO2 Booster with Leaf Zone in a 20g low tech after a crash. They turned everything around after much dying. CO2 booster may have had bad effects on my Lace Java ferns after three days of overdosing, but there are too many variables to isolate the cause. They were melting bad, however.
