Of course, that's true of pretty much everything Petco sells in their aquatic section--with the possible exception of those damned chinese algae eaters.

Chain stores are notorious for housing livestock they "throw in" tanks randomly to make a profit. Plants, fish and shrimp alike suffer from this and its unfortunate. There's a nearby Petco close to where I work (I work at a LFS) and I get people in all the time complaining about how their tank has crashed (usually due to lack of research on their part and misleading info from the Petco clerk). Such a shame.

As for the bamboo shrimp, I fully plan on getting one or two for my 30g once it's established for a few months longer...such cool little guys!

I wonder if they can be fed on coral food like clyclopeeze and powders.

I just received mine from bobsplantedtank.com someone failed to tie the bags properly 85% of the water leaked from both bags (no damage to box so not the fault of shipping) equals one dead, one almost dead shrimp. I doubt she will make it. Had to get her in the tank without acclimatizing as she had almost no water, no choice. Grrrr. Anyhow very sad someone couldn't take the time to properly tie the bags. Four times as both were double bagged!!! How is that even possible to fail so completely.... Hope they plan on replacing the poor buggers. My question is will they (supposing the retailer replaces his mistake) get on with RCS and ghosts?

You can feed them a little microvert which is designed for filter feeders and corals. (it is ok for freshwater shrimp, freshwater clams, mussels etc.) also, they will move around the tank picking up scraps off the bottom. Some seem to prefer doing this to hanging out in a current and fanning. I've watched them closely and I think they stick pretty much anything they catch with their baseball mitts into their mouths. It all goes through -- one I saw last night had a three inch string of poop hanging from his rear end. He was clinging to the filter like another poster mentioned which they like to do. If you like them get some "vampire" shrimp (Atya gabonensis) if you can find them -- they will all live happily together with RCS and well mannered fish.

Freakin Petco. My gf bought some bamboo shrimp there the other day simply to rescue them from starvation or death in an uncycled tank.

Ours never has any bamboo shrimp in stock which is why I had to order online grrr

That's the very reason I won't buy from them. I feel like if I do, all that does is encourage Petco to keep stocking them.
