40 gallon breeder light
Look at a new light for my 40 breeder project I'm starting.
Right not its between a glo light with 2 T5s or something more like this led strip: http://www.current-usa.com/aquarium-...ed-striplights Anyone with a 40 have thoughts on what works or doesn't? |

I'm in the same boat and I'm pulling the trigger on this:
http://www.catalinaaquarium.com/stor...oducts_id=1841 I spoke to the guy at CA and he said that he can install a ballast that will run both NO and HO T5's |

So just a normal light then? I don't think I'd have mine modified and I can get it cheaper through my connections

In the same boat as both of you. I did pull the trigger on a truelumen 8000k strip i found, at a good deal. From the looks of it I'll need to purchase a second strip to get a solid "medium" lighting. Was even considering pairing with a T5 fixture or a Ray 2.

That's why I'm worried about LEDs, I don't want a second fixture.

I have it running on my other tank that is up and running with water. and can take pictures and post here tonight.
the pictures on that other thread are on the next 40b i'm setting up. but par values for the fugeray are posted somewhere within this forum-should be at about medium light. http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=189944 I've had these lights on my (failing) planted tank for 2 weeks now, and am getting new green growth for the baby sword's. (they were fading away prior) they are growing both directly under the fixture, and at the edges of the tank. so it is providing sufficient light. |

If the pics aren't to much work I'd love to take a look.
It'd be silly to go through all this work and then have the light be awful :P |

understand that one, 110bucks isn't something to risk!
but you are in luck. i checked my phone and had a picture of the current tank. i can snap other angles if you'd like. but this is front on. |

Thanks, i'll get some angle shots/side to side to show the spread a bit better.
i wish i could show the blue (moonlights), but camera's don't pick up on the true color/display. |

I have the 2 bulb fixture from aquatraders.com on all 4 of my 40b. Works great, especially for the price. But I wish it was a wider fixture. 40B is super wide, and thats why we all have them! But makes me wish I had 2 fixtures to space out front/back. Although my stems in back grow fine and my HC up front is doing fine aswell so I cant complain too much.

I agree, they are awesome for the width!
but the finnex are built with a 120deg optical angle, so it provides sufficient spread for our 18inch depth. I was about to get a new t5ho fixture because my original ones were only 2ft long, rather than the full 3ft of the tank. but after 1 year of ownership on a t5ho fixture, getting new bulbs when the original ones go bad=the price of this finnex. so as long as I keep my tank running that long, then i've saved money (+savings with it being led's on energy) Here are the pictures as promised: i'm tearing this down in a month to use what i was designing in the other thread...so its a plain jane tank until then. |

How often do T5's get replaced?
And yeah that does look bringt. Is anything in there not liking the light? |
