Rimless High Tech 10G - Build
I had an extra 10 gallon tank laying around so I thought I'd try to do something with it. I derimmed the tank last week and it didn't lead for 7 days. Good enough for me! This isn't my first planted tank but I'm trying to decide on a few things....
1. Do I have to have a filter? I have this on my kitchen counter and don't really have a place to put a canister. It will be as heavily planted as I can get it, but I've never done a tank without a filter. 2. I'm trying to decide on a hardscape...I'm just not sure about the right side of the tank. 3. Anyone have some advice on plants that would make this baby look good? Currently using an AquaticLife T5 HO 48w Paintball pressurized co2 is ready to go Eco-Complete Substrate Before Derimming ![]() Cleaning up the derimming ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Bump -
Added some different rocks on the right side. Also, had some HC floating around my 40 breeder, so I planted it. My LFS gets a new plant shipment on Friday so I'm going to grab some more HC then. Anyone have some advice on other plants? I want it to be pretty simple. Probably have mostly shrimp and a small school of small fish. I was thinking some dwarf hairgrass around the rocks maybe some micro swords in the back and HC cover the foreground. Any other thoughts would really be appreciated. Also, sorry for the dirty glass!

Any advice on a decent filter for this would be awesome as well. I'm using a MarineLane c220 on my 40 and would like to have a canister, but I don't have any place under the tank to store a canister.

I like HM(baby tears) for the option of plants in this tank...
if you dont have room for a canister...how about a small HOB hang on the side of the tank I like your scape!!! What kind of stone is that? |

I honestly have no idea what kind of stone it is. Bought one big piece of it and broke it to pieces!
Ended up buying an aquaclear 30 hob today. It's pretty quiet and the flow is perfect. |

Was that a piece if driftwood in the pre-derimmed pic? I'm glad you went with the rock layout -it looks amazing. I liked it when it was more bare on the right, but it's still pretty sweet with that other ginormous rock too. I'd suggest plants but all I know are HC, glosso, and moss! With how well you've done your hardscape it'll be hard to go wrong.

I like the rocks. Reminds me of the garden of the gods in Colorado :]

That driftwood was soaking when I set up my 40 gallon!
I did like the first layout, but after staring at it for a few hours....it just didn't look right from all angles! |

Looks great! Very unique choice in rock work! The large rock on the right hand side is completely unnecessary in my opinion and takes away from the boldness and power of the left group.

Yeah the right side has really been bugging me. Do you guys think it would look better with some small rocks on the right, or no rocks at all?

Hey there! Really dig the rock arrangement. I liked the small rock on the right, but it would look good with or without it.
I will say in a tank that small, the HC and hairgrass may grow into one another. I spent a couple years at Mizzou, really enjoyed the Columbia area! |

I was thinking about the two growing into one another...just not sure what else to use in there. Maybe it would be cool to just have one plant species, but I think I would get tired of just one. I didn't go to school at Mizzou but I've lived in CoMO about three years now. Not a bad place! |
