Hardwater, high pH centerpiece fish.

I have been looking for a good hardwater fish for a while now. My tap water is really hard and has high pH, the pH can be adjusted within reason, but it is too much of a hassle to soften it.

So, are there any good centerpiece fish you can think of?

Most live bearers are good in hard water. Sounds simplistic, but how about a male Swordtail?
Many Rainbow Fish are good in a wide range of conditions. A small group would be really showy in a tank of about 4' or larger. They are all pretty active fish, and really need the space.

I have a Golden Gourami that tolerated my 8.0pH, 400ppm TDS water... who knows if he likes it though

If there's no plants central american or African cichlids would suit well in that pH level.

most angels can handle high ph tap water due to being bred in captivity. Just dont get anything wild caught and make sure you acclimate them

and i know others are suggesting them, but steer clear of livebearers unless you want a tank overrun by them or have a really good way to keep the population under control

Can't go wrong with angels. I have 2 in my tank and they get along with everyone.
