Best RO unit?

I'm going to get "serious" with CRS this time after my dad wiped out the whole population and I'm going to probably need a RO unit. After reading a TON of threads... I've realized I need a RO unit and ADA soil to get success. Is a TDS meter necessary? What RO unit does the job and is not too expensive? I found one for 200$ in my LFS... pretty expensive. What do you guys recommend or use?

www.bulkreefsupply.com sells excellent RO units. You can even design your own to your specification. I recently purchased mine here ("design your own") with the 1 micron sediment, 1 micron carbon, DI, and 75 GPD membrane. I also added inline ball valve and a membrane flush kit. Between the quality and service, this is one of the best overall values for RO units IMO.

I paid around $140 for my RO unit. First thing I noticed when I unboxed was the quality. It is build solid. Keep in mind you want someone to offer replacement parts and service support if anything goes wrong. I didn't want to take a risk with a cheap ebay unit.

The link for the "Design your own" is: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/catalo...ct/view/id/20/

Uhh I used RO water I got from a dispenser at walmart + sand....to have success with my CRS. You just need to pay attention to water quality and try to maintain stability. Soils + RO won't make you an instant CRS guru.......but it will help a lot. A lot lot lol....just remember to cycle for a while for amazonia cause it leeches ammonia.

If only I could do that. That brings to question... when I get the Amazonia, can I just put the soil into a bucket for 2-3 weeks then drain the water and put the soil into the tank? Or do I have to put it into the tank and take all the gazillion fire red babies into a 10 gal and do WCs every day to take out the ammonia? If I have to do option #2, can I put the water level really low, so I can do a higher WC % with less water or will that not work?
