Another BBA thread.......

Hello....hopefully you all arent getting sick and tired of reading the same old posts....here's my issue.....I severly neglected my 2-55 gal.aquariums for about 3 years.....now, the decorative logs/rocks in my aquarium are covered with BBA.......the rocks are easy to clean, but the twisted root/wood artificial items are just too rough textured to scrub every little nook and crannie.....Ive read the posts about the hydrogen peroxide method...if I took the decos out and poured the peroxide on to soak the BBA, would that kill it?? The items in question are WAY too big to soak the whole thing(Id need a gallon or more-they are big decorations!!)....I was wondering if I kept pouring it over the BBA,catching it in a tub, and keep repeating, if that would do the trick???? Thanks, all for reading this!!!! Ive got back to weekly water changes, and Ive got good circulation, and run my lights about 120 hours a day-just a standard daylight flourescent, and a GE "Plant growth" bulb....not alot of wattage there......

I just tried a 3 day total black out and it worked miracles. I then planted lots of new plants and hopefully that will help as well

Blackout will kill just the plants not BBA.

Hydrogen Peroxide works, there are numerous threads about treatments. There's also a 1-2 punch method developed by one of the forum members which received good feedback.

Search before you post. In forums this large there's bound to be several threads about your issue already discussed.

Do look on the sticky too, lots of good info.

All I can say is what worked for me. I was spot injecting hydrogen peroxide and excel at what I thought was BBA and spirogyra and dropping my photo time and that didn't work too well. bba turn red but would show up elsewhere. Got tired of it and was going out of town for a few days and decided to try total black out for 3 days. when i came back both bba and spirogyra was gone. yup lots of plants didn't make it but some did and i'm replanting. but no algae so i'm happy

All I can suggest is also what worked for me - SAEs! Haha I took the lazy route and let someone else do all the work! I would consider it if you don't want to have to worry about BBA again (like... ever.). They really do love to munch the stuff!
