Leftovers

So i planted my first tank today and i have some leftover plants. I tossed them in a fish bowl filled with water so they are either floating or sitting at the bottom. Is this ok for now or do they need to be planted in soil?

Most plants will be okay for a while, but they do need food.

Could that be provided with a liquid supplement?
This same bowl will be a temp home for a betta starting later this week so there will soon be fish poop, too.

Put it on the window sill with a little bit of liquid ferts and you'll be fine temporarily. Most plants will do fine with just sitting in water for a while but if you have sensitive plants they can be helped by light and fertilizer in the meantime.

You'll need to move it from the window sill and add a heater once the beta is in there, mind you. At that time you might want to figure out a small amount of substrate and a lighting source to grow the plants.
