My planted tank

I have a 72 gallon bowfront aquarium that I have been working on long the last year. I thought I would finally post some pictures on here.


I have a pleco and several siamese algae eaters but this black stuff will not get off some of my plants.

Let me know what everyone thinks.

Black Beard algea?

You have plants that are not very nitrogen/nutrient dependent, resulting in a very nutrient rich water column, I would do more water changes. The rocks could also be leaching minerals depending on pH.

Consider adding riparium plants, reducing photoperiod, raising lights higher above plants.

I had quite the BBA problem until I got the Siamese Algae eaters in the tank. They did a very good job of reducing that to nothing. I'm not sure what kind this is. It is still black but I haven't really tried to clean it off. Any recommendations on plants to add that will reduce nitrates?

The black stuff is actually the very very bottom of BBA. Siamese algae eaters in many cases can't get the very last spot off where it has already grown in many cases. Are you getting it on new leaves? You could also do Excel treatment that might work, but it also might not affect the residue.

I added a new plant since the BBA was under control and it hasn't shown any signs of BBA. So it seems to only be on the older plants that had it. I will have to keep a closer eye on the older plants. Since I added Co2 Injection I have been trying to keep a closer eye on all of the plants. Their growth was kind of bad before; leaves that looked chewed up. The ciclids that I have are leaving the plants alone for the most part so I think it is anemic growth.

I was thinking a few of the plants in the front will eventually block your view.
