Noobie needs help
Hey guys, It’s the noobie back with some questions. If somebody could be so kind to help. Well This is my first planted tank, to see my spec see my first post ( Please Help!!!) a few days ago. I’m having some melting plants. They are not melting as much now and i”ve started to see new growth. My pygmy chain sword is even spreading. I am trying to get the tank to cycle, so i am trying to limit the water changes. I did a 25% water change about 4 days ago. There is a lot of decaying plant matter in the tank and a flim has developed on the water surface. Do i need to do another water change now to remove decaying matter. I dont want a algae bloom. The tank has been up for about 11 days. PH-7.2,Ammonia-0, Nitrite-0.25,Nitrate-5.
Thanks Larry |

If you're trying to cycle a tank you usually do more water changes, not less.

Waterchanges during a fishless cycle will cause it to take longer most of the time.

More water changes.
Also, are those crypts? They do melt in a new environment but grow back.

Yes, those are crypts. They have new growth too. Its is a fish less cycle. So i thought it would be faster if i didnt change the water.

IMO and what I've heard, no wc until cycle complete, then one big wc to get rid of nitrates, then regular wc's.
Because, diluting Ammonia and Nitrite makes it take longer to complete the cycle.
