eheim 2217 media arrangement.

so... my eheim 2217 comes with substrat pro , eheim mech and 1 blue coarse pad.

im thinking of removing the mech and replace with substrat pro. so it would be 3-4L of substrat pro , and 1 blue coarse pad

how should i arrange it ?

Let me add another question...
My 2213 has a white pad (EhfiSynth), but not my 2217. I thought it was because I bought it used, but I see the OP doesn't have one either. Does that mean the 2217 don't need the EhfiSynth?

I'd put the blue pad at the bottom of the canister, and then fill the middle with substrat pro, then place the white floss pad at the top. Not sure if you'll have enough bio media with 3-4l, you might need a bit more.

No, white pads should be used in both. But honestly it's a question of personal preference, but I find the white pads do a great job of removing debris.

thanks. will fill it all the way up and enough for a top layer filter floss .
by the way , 1 blue coarse pad is enough ?

White pads are a waste of time IMO. I run both of my Eheims with the blue pad on the bottom and the rest is just Bio Rio (slightly finer biomedia) in an Eheim media bag. No issues with water quality whatsoever...healthy plants do most of the work. If you're waiting for stuff to grow in then you can just run some good carbon or purigen on top of your biomedia. White pad just slows flow and gets dirty too quick IME.

Bottom up should be as follows,
Fine mech=fine floss
Substrat pro=bio
Blue pad=mech
Efimech=mech

You can really put what you want wherever but this is how most set up classics.
The efimech works best on the bottom as its the first thing the water comes in contact with and traps the larger debris.
