Impatient man's dosing regime

I just made this up

Basically I don't like ordering online even though it's great and all

I've found it can be difficult to find what you need, so I'm wondering if anyone has any clever ideas

Here's how I am currently rolling:

KNO3- Hi -yield stump remover - Hardware store ~ $6 for maybe a year's worth

PO4- Fleet Enema- Buy a bunch and laugh at the people who look at you ~$3 at any grocery store not sure sure but seems like at least 6 months worth

K2O- ? This is what I would like to know, I've found stuff like greensand at nurseries but I don't think that's water soluble. There maybe some hydroponic stuff but I am looking for a common product that is easily "locate-able"

It seems if you go around asking people for "sulfate of potash" they look at you like you're crazy

Some one out there may know of something yes?

If you think you/actually need to dose calcium or magnesium it seems certain brands of ice melter are pure calcium (something or other), I've heard "damp-rid" available at homer for about $8 is good for calcium

Epsom salt is easily attainable for mg

Please correct me if I'm wrong about anything

and please help me avoid paying too much money to seachem

You can buy all the dry ferts for around $10-15 and that will last you at least a year, instead of having to drive to all those different places to buy all those ingredients that are "watered" down. Some of this forum's sponsers sell dry ferts, give them a look.

Ordering stuff is bunk, I use GroFine a miraclegro knock-off.

Here's the thing, your going to go out and play kitchen chemist using a lot of products that you don't know what else is in them to try and save some money. In doing so, you'll also put your tank at risk. All you need is one item that isn't safe and you just wiped out your tank.

In addition, you'll spend a lot of time tracking all this down.

While you many not like buying online, it really is the best solution. You place the order, wait a few days, and it arrives. You'll have exactly what you want, and no risks to your tank.

I found potassium sulfate at the nursery a long time ago but the same nursery doesn't carry it any longer. You would go broke fast using a salt substitute for K. Isn't some water softener potassium chloride? Be careful dosing the Fleet, it doesn't look like anything but has plenty of phosphorus in it.

Plaster of paris is a good source for calcium and baking soda is carbonate but unfortunately also sodium. Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate plus a lot of water.

And read the labels extremely carefully and research the exact brand online to avoid unpleasant surprises.
