The charts shown in the pdf's of specs for the two varieties of XM-L don't support the claims of 20% higher efficiency for the XM-L2. See the chart of relative flux vs current for the two. The charts are almost identical, if not identical. But, this is still the LED to use if you have a very good heatsink and want to drive it at 2.5 - 3 amps for really high output.
