Help with rock identification

Even my Google-fu is stumped with this one. I inherited a rock collection from my great grandfather about 20 years ago. I'm thinking of using some of it in a tank.

Does anyone know what this rock is? I have some vinegar to test it with, but nothing stronger. I have enough of this rock to use it as my hardscape with some driftwood, but I'm trying to ID it first!

Someone on a local forum identified this as rose rock. I think she's right! Anyone know if it's aquarium safe?

Actually, it looks like it is specifically "Desert Rose" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desert_rose_%28crystal%29

I think you found the right wiki page for it.

I wouldn't stick it in an aquarium. gypsum won't hold up to water, and even if it doesn't affect your water pH/hardness, it will breakdown/dissolve. And that looks like a pretty nice sized piece. It would be a shame to see it damaged/destroyed.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. That piece is probably about 5 inches across. It's the biggest one in my collection. I have chunks down to the size of my thumbnail. Looks like I'll just be cleaning them up and displaying them instead!
