My first shrimp tank!

So I've decided to set up one of my ten gallon tanks as a red cherry shrimp tank! It will be dirted, with added clay, and capped with fluorite. It will have a penguin biowheel 100 filter as well as a heavy plant load. Now, I still have to set it up and cycle it, which I'll be doing in a week or two. Now, in your opinion, what should I feed them? What equipment might I get to better my experience with them? I will be getting a filter intake sponge cover to protect the shrimplets. I want to do this right and not jump right into it, so any suggestions will be appreciated. I should also state that I have no experience with shrimp, just saying.

I would definitely take my time cycling and setting up. When I started, I was so excited that I wanted to rush into things. Good thing I found this forum and researched thoroughly. I would definitely suggest investing in a test kit of some sort to use while you cycle. Take note of levels so once you do introduce shrimp, it'll be suitable and you can avoid heartbreak with dead shrimp.
Once you do get shrimp, which shouldn't be for a while since you haven't started cycling, there are many options for food -commercial, homemade from members of this site (support members!) and boiled veggies. Overall, shrimp do fine grazing off the biofilm that naturally accumulates in your tank.
All in all, do your research and make your own experiences.

It will be more enjoyable if you find what works for you while gaining insight from others. Have fun!

Oh I will be, trust me! Even once it is deemed safe for fish, it will be inhabited by zebra danios for awhile, and if they can then handle it, and my levels check out as okay, it is time for the shrimp! That will also allow for some biofilm to accumulate in the tank, thus giving them a natural food supply to graze off of between feedings. As well, good to know! Thanks for the response

Can you provide a link to the specific thread? Also, I found a semi local aquarist who I'll be getting my shrimp from, 50 for $25 :P

Jake really does make excellent food, and his customer service is one of the best! You'll have no regrets going with his stuff.

I'll throw in another +1 for Jake's food. I mix it up between his, my own, and Repashy Super Foods but his is definitely good stuff and priced right.
