TOO cheap? Vietnamese Money conversion help??
I'm going to Vietnam to visit my sick grandma, and I found
out that there is a shrimp/aquarium shop 15 minutes away... Anyone in Vietnam ever heard of GC-Shop? (Green Chapter) I was wondering if the products were REALLY that cheap. I think I'm wrong about how cheap they are. For example, on the website, there is MOSURA Excel for 330 VND. I searched up how many USD is one VND, and I got 1 USD= 20,000 something VND... is it really that cheap...? I might be right, since in VN, almost all electronic/hobby things are VERY cheap. So... anyone know if I'm right or wrong? Website: http://gcshop-vn.com/product.php?bid=30&nipp=100 |

It's not that cheap and I think it's just a little bit cheaper than over here. A bottle of excel is like 17 dollars free shipping on aquabid and the 330 is like more like 15 dollars.

Can you explain how 330 VND = 15 USD to me?
I'm totally confused, since this website said 1 USD= 20,000 something VND. And I just noticed you live in Anaheim. |

20 dong= 1 dollar
I'm Vietnamese too so. or more precisely 1 dollar equal to 20,845.00 Vietnamese Dong, which is false since it is really 21 dong if you round it. Here is the list of money they make:100₫, 200₫, 500₫, 1,000₫, 2,000₫, 5,000₫, 10,000₫, 20,000₫, 50,000₫, 100,000₫, 200,000₫, 500,000₫. 20,000 Dong is really 20 dong, just ignore the zero. That's how they say it in Vietnam. Let's say 20 Dong, they would say 20 thousand Dong but it really is 20 Dong. It has to do with the inflation issue in the olden days. It is really hard to explain. Like I said earlier, the Mosura would be close to 15-16 dollars in Vietnam, which is not bad. |

As mentioned, the website probably means 330 VND = 330,000 VND.

If you buy so much stuff, it'll be easier to ship the stuff home rather than carrying it on the plane with you.

Everywhere but the U.S. uses "," where we use a "." when typing numbers. We would type 20.000, where in Europe and Asia they would type 20,000 So that would read 20 point 000 and not 20 thousand. And currency conversions are always given to the 3rd decimal point, instead of the 2 we use for every day money calculations. |

You are correct that the conversion rate is 20000 VND to 1USD. They probabaly meant 330 VND as 330000 VND. I should've checked out flowerhorn and shrimp stores in Vietnam when I went there =/ The last time I went there was 7 years ago.

This results in a mish-mash of metric/Imperial units in our everyday lives. I know my weight in pounds and kilograms, and my height in inches and centimetres (yes, I spell it that way too I don't use miles or feet for distance, but I will use inches for measuring things. Currency wise, Canadians most commonly use a period to indicate the decimal point in currency. So, $20,520 would mean twenty thousand, five hundred and twenty dollars $20.52 would be twenty dollars and fifty two cents $20,52 to me looks a bit strange, but I would recognize it as $20.52 as well $20.521 to me would indicate (say) an exchange value to the tenth of a cent
