Guppy Murderer!!!!!
Dang it! My wife talked me into buying two guppy males last week for our 29 gallon community tank. Beautiful guppies, unlike any I have ever seen. Well, one of the d-bags has been tearing up the tails of all the fish in the tank!
One of our females died today, and my whisker shrimp are feeding on her as I type this. I gave the guppy a timeout in a container for a little over 24 hours, but it didn't work. I know it's him, because his tail is the only one intact, and I've seen him chasing the other fish. Not even my GBR does this! He protects his little corner, but that's it.I'm about to flush this little d-bag. Does anyone have any siggestions on how to tame this beast? If there's anyone who lives near the lincoln tunnel on the NJ side who might be interested in taking him ASAP, pm me. I'll try and get you pics, and you can have him.Thoughts are greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Yeah, this is a small local shop that I like.....kinda new. I'm not taking him back for that reason, and it's a 30 min drive (local to me is within an hour). Wish I had a cichlid tank.....

Cichlids are the best thing to keep guppies with. And then, the guppies are only temporary residents.... Big daddy convict gets hungry...

Exactly......starting to hate that little d-bag big time! I'd like to see how he feels when a 5" cichlid chases him around!
Seriously.....no way to calm this beast down? He really is nice looking. I'd hate to drop him in with a deuce and flush!

I have a yellow-tailed guppy that is the same way, constantly nipping/harassing my other fish. I don't think you can do much about it.
Though, he did calm down the other day when I turned the CO2 up too high...

Dang.....no co2. Plus I don't want to hurt the others......this tank is overstocked, but well maintained with lots of live plants. I do feel like shooting him with my paintball gun! Another timeout? Should I put him in with my nasty betta for a little bit? Who would win? He's running out of options by the minute!

Flushing a fish is quite honestly a cruel way to kill it... Maybe you could just separate him until next time you go to the LFS. That's what I do with fish who aren't working... You may not get credit, but most stores will at least take the fish.

giving fish a time out? i don't see how that would do anything but stress him.
why not just put him in the freezer and be done with it |

have a stern discussion with him, and start taking away toys until he calms down.

You never want to keep more male guppies than females. That is what caused your d-bag's aggressive behavior.

Well, I had more females than males. So that wasn't it. And I can tell you that the time out might have worked, as ridiculous as it sounds. He seems to have gotten better. He follows the females around, and no nipping. We'll see how it goes.
And the only reason I have guppies is because my wife kept bugging me until I finally broke down. Sucks, but it is what it is.
