Not sure how well the DHG will do without CO2; I have always thought of it as a CO2 required plant. Maybe someone more knowledgable than me will chime in.
Otherwise I like it. If it were me though, I would choose either 22 of the cardinals or rummys and not some of each; one larger school looks better to me. Personal preference. What kind of discus you looking at?

I have seen mixed results reported on DHG, but I think it's possible. Low-growing crypts such as parva, willisi, and lucens (and hybrids thereof) work great with no c02 as a different option if you have the patience to let them grow out.

Don't forget to factor in temperature; most discus are kept at higher temps that restrict plant choices as much as or more than CO2 or not. At what temp do you keep yours?

Temperature is not a problem since im in asia, our temperature ranging from 26-30 and 28degree celcius in room temperature . In my 55gallon planted discus, the plants and discus are doing well but im using diy co2 and diy co2 is useless when i use it on 120gallon .

Carpet plantings will not likely do very well in the 2 bulb lighting you plan on (and without CO2), but more importantly, the use of carpet plants will probably significantly limit your ability to maintain a very clean substrate environment for your discus.
If you use pressurized CO2, that could also complicate keeping discus with the daily swings in pH that could occur. That's my .02 I would avoid doing any carpet planting in a discus tank - just keep things simple for best success. |
