Suggestions/thoughts/help please

I currently have a 25 gallon that is sitting empty and its driving me crazy- its time to do something with it.

I think that I'll use flourite - or something similar - as my substrate capped with either sand or gravel.

I'm going to use a fuvel canister filter. The lights need to be whatever will fit in the existing canopy - or in the space available. The tank is in a stand already.

I think that I'm going to fill it with tetras and plants.
Any suggestions to help this be successful?
