Helllo i am going to be trying a few different tanks and 2 are going to use schults aquatic soil. Does this have to be covered by gravel?

Marc...in one word NO.
The problem with Schultz aquatic plant soil is that it is extremely light. You might want to consider putting some gravel over it. I was running nothing but Schultz's in my 15 gallon and added some play sand to the mix to give it a bit of weight. Mike

i don't like how its light.... the power of my filter (very crappy one) sometimes makes the gravel messed up and not flat.

I may add some sand as well to the gravel but i think the sand will eventually go all of the way to the bottem

Well the plants are doing good with this substrate. I agree about the lightness. Large potted plants easily float up with this stuff so i added some gravel as well since the sand will eventually sink to the bottom.
