First the algae. Have 2 types that I am not sure what they are. I "think" they are staghorn" (2 different species?)
Below you can see both (the fine stuff is growin on parva. There is similar looking stuff which is MUCH thicker. You can see it in the center and bottom right) ![]() next the bugs. You can see them in the pic above. here is a close up so you can get the "beetle marking" for ID. They do not seem to bug the fish or the plants. They seem like scavangers.

Regarding the algae... I agree with you  don't know much about them. Just recently started to grow in my tanks as well, looks kinda interesting on rocks, and not so good on plants.
The beetle... my guess is if they have the size of daphnias and move in a continuous fashion that these are related crustaceans of the Genus Moina... if not, don't scream at me, if so, then they are fairly good fish food. It's hard to say even with the closeup.

thanks.
that "Big" species of staghorn is weird. it grows in hollow tubes. When removing some the other day, I noticed that there were a lot of the bugs traveling through it ...strange. Those beetles don't swim a whole lot, but when they do, they stay near "solid ground".
