DSM and ammonia
DSM question for fresh water conditions and plants not yet selected…just starting the setup preparations. Substrate is black fluorite with lower sub of clay hydroballs. My question is does ammonia in water help or hurt roots of plants during dry start method (DSM). PP

If your talking about naturally occuring ammonia from decaying organics, then no it won't hurt the plants. If you plan on adding ammonia to speed up bacterial growth, then yes it will hurt the plants, due to a lack of circulation and high concentrations.
