shrimp not breeding

I havent seen a berried female since the begining of October. I believe it the winter time...

I have seven berried females at the moment. Every time I look lately I spot another one. Most of us keep them under controlled and fully artificial conditions (light and temp don't vary with the season), so I’m not sure that “winter” is really a factor. Mine had slowed down over the summer because I'd let the TDS creep up.

A lot of you are in the warmer areas, so the shrimps may still be breeding, but up where its cold right now and we have heating on the water still tends to drop a bit during the night because the lights are off.

I put a heater in my Taiwan tank (especially because my Taiwan babies are in the breeder box attached to this tank) and because my temp drops to 72F during the night. I have the daytime temp set around 74F and kept the lights off yesterday and today.

This am I saw a molt!!! Hopefully someone found someone else during the night to keep warm with

They have heaters on them, so I don't notice any significant change in temp (all set to 70). That's my whole point. If you're creating an utterly artificial world in terms of heat and light cycles, winter shouldn't mean anything to your shrimp. It's like Groundhog Day inside the tank. The temp flux in the tanks is never more than a couple of degrees as the heater and lights cycle on and off.

Or maybe I'm not understanding the conditions other people keep their shrimp under?

My tank is in the basement without any sun light. Even if I keep the same temperature in the winter, they breed much slower with the same controlled lighting. Maybe air pressure or something else give away the hint of winter, I don't know.

There are thoughts/theories that it has to do with barometric pressure moreso than temps themselves.

One of those things that seems to remain a mystery to some extent. I live in the same are as pinoy, simplicity, randyl and every day I turn on the lights and males are swarming and I see a new berry. I swear every female that is of the age of consent is berried right now. Even one of my new ones that are only a few months old, one is berried already.

This SSS girl just got berried last night.

They do slow during winter. Set temp and light means nothing to them I think the since the pressure changes. Mi get berries in the winter and often but in spring and summer all my females are always carrying eggs

I don't seem to have problems seeing berries at all, I see a new one Every week.
I'm located in Wa state & I turn off my filter every night so it gets a bit cooler at night

Folks...experiences are going to vary. Species, water, tank size, tank temp, etc, etc, etc. Some folks may see a common trend of breeding slowing down, some might not. I think the point of the matter is it's not UNCOMMON for breeding to slow in the winter months for whatever reasons the shrimps may come up with. If it doesn't slow down for you, awesome.

There was constantly 4-5 berried females at any given time in my tanks. Since November I have yet to see a berried shrimp! Water remains fairly consistent, no major changes. Same TDS, GH, PH ......... must be something with Winter. I even recall last year to have very few berries in winter......

maybe it is a coincidence?
