My fabulous Birthday present!!! Check this out!

I am sooo happy today I just got the best Birthday present ever!

I was checking my breeder box to see how the new Taiwan babies were doing and what do I see....a 1 bar BKK sitting in the floss...then I look and there's another one this time a 2 bar BKK.

These are 2 week olds and I NEVER knew they were in this box, I searched it completely and only ever found the 1 Panda.

Now I have 3 x 2 week olds, and 10 brand new ones....WHAT A GREAT PRESENT! Thank you God.

here they are.

So guys, the filter floss idea really does work well for keeping babies alive!

Thanks guys, I am amazed at how these guys have hid in such a small area...I searched that box with my magnifier and even over the last 2 weeks, have not seen hide nor hair of any others except the Panda....where they've been I don't know, but Im sure glad they like the buffet lunch I set up for them

Nice thats awsesome. Happy bday. Where do you get this filter floss, is it an actual aquatic product? Im looking to put it in my breeder box too. I set one up a few weeks ago but put white gravel in it and didnt like the look of it so its just been running with bright white gravel in it. Im thinking of doing no gravel with moss or this filter floss and cholla wood slices.

Its just the white cotton fluffy wool stuff you use for media with an HOB filter You can buy a big bag of it at Walmart its used as stuffing!

As you know you have to periodically rinse out the floss and add some new stuff to promote biofilm in the filters. This is just a piece of dirty filter floss....I rinsed it out just a bit in some tank water, and then added it to my breeder box. Its absolutely smelly, dirty gross looking but full of goodies the shrimps like to eat.

I put some Netlea soil (you could grab some of your substrate from your Taiwan tank in a net and use that) put it in the bottom of the box and I added some IAL leaves, and alder cone and then the floss along with an airstone. I toss in a ramshorn snail for cleanup.

Ive done this several times now and babies survive better than in a bare box without the airstone or leaves.

I just got the idea about the floss when I thought what would a baby shrimp want to eat without expanding too much energy....dirty yucky flossy stuff they can hang onto and pick at until they grow bigger

Here's a couple of pics showing my tank and the breeder box with contents on the side. Nothing fancy, just affordable and economic.

I'm wondering if putting some filter floss, just a couple of small squares, in tanks would work for the babies as well. I would think it would give them an infinite amount of hiding places as they grow. Think it would work?

Oh and CONGRATS!

Why not just use moss?? It looks way better than floss!

I've got plenty of moss...but I still think it would offer as many hiding spaces as filter floss...but I could be way off base as I don't have every moss out there

I found before the babies didn't climb in the moss like they do this filter floss...don't have an answer for that, but just noticed it, even on the moss ball...nada. This works, so that's why Im using it.

Very awesome to see such a variety come out of one batch I'm assuming. The filter floss may have a ton of bacteria for them to feed on.

exactly...how often have you emptied a whisper filter from a shrimp tank and found loads of them living in there, even berried ones??? what were they eating all that time....of course the bacteria that grows in the floss.

My babies are growing nicely now so I know they are eating good. I also feed some earthworm powder mixed with water and squirt that in the box too to supplement them.

It may not look great but who cares as long as the babies are surviving and growing.

Keep going, I cant tell ig some of my babies in my tank now, probably near 100 of them are Hybrid CBS or Pandas. I have 4 for sure shadow pandas as babies, but the low grade CBS and pandas look the same until they get bigger. I can see some SS-SSS+ hybrids, but the S grade and Pandas look a like. the dang shadows look just like them but they have the blue color in the white area. I think I may have a BB or 2 as babies.
