eheim vs hydor vs quiet one pumps
Hey
I just bought a cheap Ecoplus pump and it is very noisy. I want to replace it with either the hydor, eheim, or quiet one. Is there a real difference in how quiet they are? Thanks! |

I decided on a pond pump, Laguna Max Flo, for my tank this time. Rio Hyperflo was in the running too. Search google for reef central threads, those people have a lot of discussions on quiet pumps.
Have you cushioned the pump and anything vibrating? That can make a huge difference in the noise level.

Ill agree with kathyy on this, reef guys for sure know their pumps. They've had their heads wrapped around external pumps for a long time.

Eheim compact.
I got 2 of them - the 2000 and the 5000 - on my big tank. External. Can't hear a thing. Flow is 1,100 gph actual from both pumps (5 feet head). |

I bought a Quiet One 1200 pump. It was anything but. And they use o-rings on their threaded barbs in/out. Poor design. I would avoid.
Supreme Mags - noisy until they break in a little, then tolerable but not silent. Only experience I have with FW pumps. When I did reef, I used Japanese Iwakis and Little Giants. Both excellent for their purposes. |
