Stingray Pleco

I've been looking into options besides a trio of Ottos for algea eating and im thinking that stingray plecos might be an option, my LFS always has these in stock and i nearly bought them last time but i decided to wait. Anyone know anything about these guys? should i stay away from them?

They prefer cool oxygenated water with high current. They're stream fish.

The cooler water might be a problem for me, i keep my tanks in the high 70's (No apparent reason for doing so besides preference), i get a good water flow... i might give it a shot, see how it goes

They are not plecos, they're loaches. Good article by Martin Thoene, http://www.loaches.com/articles/hill...-the-fast-lane

Yeah, I've never heard of "stingray plecos." That's probably what it is.

Distributors in NY area have been miss-labeling them lately - thus the confusion at the LFS places as it's a rare fish. And they do need high current and cooler water, otherwise they won't last.
