Wow, I'm definitely surprised by the wood. You did a great job on the stand.

Nice work! But the stand might steal my attention from the aqua scape itself.

I love the figuring in that wood. Love to use it in a cabinet project. One thing on biscuits. They go great with a little butter on them.
OK seriously. Don't count on them for any real strength. Testing has proven that they add little to none. The glue is doing 98% of the holding. (I was an avid biscuit user for a long time) The last two years I've been using a tongue and dado for strength and alignment. "Discovered" it at a wood working show/sale/expo here in Florida. I resisted for a while (old methods were too ingrained) and now I can't believe how easy it makes things go. Like other joinery it's not for all situations. The skill comes from knowing when to use something and when not. Your cabinet bottom appears to be just a butt joint. Why no dado to give support and eliminate the need for the metal ells?

wow, that's seriously beautiful... To Hoppy's point, I'm a little shocked you used the same wood throughout as it seems a little overkill but you've definitely created a showpiece.
I thought I'd spent too much when I went with black walnut for the face of my ADA inspired stand but you've gone way above and beyond |

Most sassafras trees live only 100-500 years, not 2000.

Says who, the people who cut them down and found out the tree was 500 years old when they killed it? lol. Im no tree hugger, just a little depressing when I think about deforestation and the destruction of or planet for luxury. No offense to OP, its not his fault he likes to build nice stands, but shame on industry and indulgence, thats for certain.
Besides, I was referencing the pine he has stored for another project, which he said was from a 2000 year old tree.
