reef epoxy is a done deal once it sets. At least the one I used was. 40B riparium with a 40B sump, I am liking this even more by the post!

Yep a 30 breeder should be 18" deep x 36" wide by 12" tall and a 40 breeder is the same except it is 16" tall

It seems to hold fairly well, however after I had done a few rocks I decided that I wanted to change it a bit and needed to separate some that the epoxy had already curred. I was able to break them apart by hammering on them. I was not however successful in getting all of the epoxy off of the rock.

It's a bit of trail and error to figure out how to use it - I tried kneeding up a large amount and then was going to attach rocks - by the time I got to the third rock it was already starting to set up and didn't adhere to the rock very well.

Reef epoxy it good stuff, but as stated once it sets up, you have to break things to get it to move. With reef rock its not big deal, because the stuff is soft/crumblie enough that you just break off the pieces with the epoxy attached. With river rock I would think it would be a much bigger deal. However, even with GS foam, once you get it on the rock, short of using a power sander, it isn't going to come off. I always have lousy luck getting the epoxy to set exactly where I want it however and generally speaking I find it pretty unappealing to look at.

Thanks Len, I figured it was something along the line, not sure how the 30 and 40 got confused at the store, but they aren't getting it back, so its good to go.

Things are a little slow at the minute, as I'm dealing with a bunch of moss arrivals (Bill, yours did finally arrive and everything looks good), and trying to get a shrimp tank and a German Blue Ram tank all set-up at the same time. I've got to get more students who need extra credit to stick around after school somehow LOL, either that, or I've got to slow my over indulgance in all things aquarium related LOL.

Out of curiosity - Do you run the looking after of yor tanks as a course? How do the kids get credit? I've been thinking of running a class to take care of mine and others in the school instead of working it into my existing classes.

Yes and no, I teach an aquatic biology course, and every Friday in the class is aquarium day. Students are allowed to choose an aquarium at the beginning of the term and they and their partners are required to maintain the aquarium (clean, do water changes, test chemistry, feed, etc.) At the end of each quarter, they receive a tank grade. Part of which is determined by me (based on how well they as a group performed their responsibility overall) and part is determined by their peers in the group (based on how well they as an individual helped to perform the task). At semester, if they choose, they are allowed to switch tanks. Some tanks I reserve for me, and generally don't allow students to be responsible for them, such as The Bog, and my 30 paludarium. Last year I had two groups of students who wanted to take on the task of building a paludarium rather than maintaining a tank, so they built two "bog" tanks in 40B turtle tanks for a couple other teachers.

Me too! Thanks so much, I'll get to that feedback thing, I promise. I'm not sure I can find a source for moss taxonomy, but we will see. Last time I had to I.D. some aquatic plants, I had to bring in a specialist for UW LOL.

I don't mind people not labeling when they don't know, but what I don't understand is the people who do know, who don't bother to label their bags. What is up with that? If they know what they're selling, it would sure be nice if they would label the bags, so I know what I getting!

Yeah, me too, but when you were in your troubled stage would you have done a good job on an aquarium? I know I wouldn't have.

actually? yes. it was the only part of my youth where i did good things.....LOL i have had my own tanks since i was about 12. when i turned 16(ish) and started working, i was keeping marine tanks. at the height of my "troubles" i had a nice home for a 3 foot zebra moray named Mister Magoo. of course, i was the exception to the rule.

LOL, indeed I would tend to concure. I have a few of our troubled youth in my aquatic class, and many of them do very well. Right now, I have one who is in charge of my 65 gallon reef tank, and he is doing a great job. Most however would happily pour bleach into a tank just to see what happens . I'm afraid I was far to busy drinking beer and racing cars in my troubled years to worry about a fish tank LOL. Of course there was wood to chop and coal to carry whenever I was a home, so fish tanks weren't something I considered at the time. I didn't get into aquariums until I started by second teaching job. Of course its been game on every since.

Thanks - I 'll have to look at our CTS courses and see if there is anything there that would apply, and perhaps offer it next year - another teacher here is currently teaching a marine biology course. I like your idea of assigning a group of students to each tank and then once a week giving them time to do the maintenance, I think that I'll build something similar into my program next semester perhaps with my science 24
