TDS and cherry shrimp
What's the ultimate TDS threshold for cherry shrimp? I'm around 500 TDS right now...
NO2-0.02 NO3-0.5 Neutral pH. Haven't tested GH/KH yet, waiting on a test kit. I can lower my TDS if I have to but do I absolutely need to? Thanks! |

Obsessed? Maybe

I'd say the ideal range would be less than half that TDS. Though, many keep them in tanks with 400+.
The important thing would be knowing all of your parameters, including GH and KH. Knowing all parameters will help you determine if you can keep shrimp.

We have very hard water here so I know the hardness is high but I don't have an exact number. This is a 3 gallon planted bowl, so I could cut my TDS value in half by doing a 50% water change with RO/DI. Although water changes with tap water would be much simpler!

With the API GH/KH test kit I'm getting 8 drops for KH and 11 drops for GH. I'm interpreting that as 8dKH and 196.9 GH. Is this correct? My KH appears to be ok for shrimp but my hardness is pretty high.

The number it is is each drop until it turns to the next color. So in the hundreds is highly unlikely, if it took 11 drops then its 11.

This is equivalent to 142 ppm for kH and 196 ppm for gH.

Thank y'all very much. So for cherry shrimp these values fall right in between the accepted values for housing them. Good to know!
